5 May 2025Written by Ali Talebi Zadeh

The 2025 edition of the National Iranian Othello Championship was successfully held on May 1st and 2nd, 2025 (equivalent to 10th and 11th Ordibehesht 1404 in the Iranian calendar) in Rafsanjan, a city in Kerman Province, Iran. The event took place at the Dopamin Game Hall, located within the Khoshgedeh Agah Cultural and Sports Complex.
A total of 23 players participated in the championship, including 12 players under the age of 18, showcasing the growing interest and development of Othello among younger players in Iran. The tournament followed a 6-round Swiss system, which allowed fair pairing and ranking of participants regardless of their initial seeding. See pairings and standings here.
After the Swiss rounds, three players – Mohammad Zamanzadeh, Amin Pour Hamzeh Asl, and Mohsen Karamad – were tied for the fourth position. To resolve this, a special ranking pool was conducted between them. Following three additional matches, Mohammad Zamanzadeh emerged as the fourth semifinalist.
The semifinals were then played in a two-leg (home and away) format:
- Danial Pour Hamzeh Asl (1st seed) faced Mohammad Zamanzadeh (4th seed)
- Reza Shayesteh (2nd) played against Mehdi Taheri (3rd)
After exciting semifinal rounds, Danial Pour Hamzeh Asl and Reza Shayesteh advanced to the Final. Two intense games were played, both won by Danial, crowning him as the national champion.
The event was officiated and supervised by Ali Talebizadeh-Sardari, who served as the head referee. The matches were also broadcast live via LiveOthello.com, enabling fans and players across the country to follow the action.
The event was generously sponsored by Dopamin Game World, a prominent board game hub in Rafsanjan, which provided both the venue and logistical support.
